Art and Science Enlighten Us in a Not-quite Total Eclipse

“On Monday, April 8th, 2024, Cambridge will be hit with a near-total solar eclipse (93.1% coverage). All are welcome to a viewing party in the grassy field of Kingsley Park, a section of Fresh Pond Reservation ….where the festivities will be underway ” ( quote from Cambridge Water Dept, Total Eclipse of the Park)

Without the dramatic light changes of a total eclipse, this party offered creative ways to engage with and understand the significant event above us. I was impressed with the availability of learning resources and supportive volunteers. Here are a few photos of what I glimpsed when I wasn’t peering through eclipse glasses or other devices.

“More than a thousand people packed Kingsley Park in Cambridge for a solar eclipse watch party with free viewing glasses, popcorn, astronomy experiments and displays, and live music from local folk band Trail Mix.” ( quote from Cambridge Packs Kingsley Park For A Solar Eclipse Watch Party )
