July 22 2026 was the third annual Cambridge Moth Ball and my second time attending. Really rewarded once again, I certainly hope to attend annually as long as possible. Quotes, links, and my photos here should reveal some of Moth Ball’s special appeal.

“Come and be dazzled by the extraordinary nighttime creatures known as Moths. Marvel at their mysterious habits, coloration, and special place in our ecology as you learn how to attract and ID moths. As part of National Moth Week, we will be exploring these fascinating woodland insects up close and share the data and photos we collect with researchers. ” (quote from Fresh Pond Reservation Newsletter July 2026 )

Mythical/Mothical attire recommended! Families can arrive at 6:30 to help with moth-themed crafts for the festival. ” (quote from Fresh Pond Reservation Newsletter July 2026 )
My focus this year was on three creative activities offered by Wildlife Arts early in the evening.

“ This year, we also celebrate the power of moths to inspire the creative imagination of artists.” (quote from The Moth Ball )

“Moth Ball is a beautiful summer night under the stars at Fresh Pond’s Kingsley Park. It’s a celebration of night, community, biodiversity, discovery, and, most of all, moths.” (quote from The Moth Ball )

“This is a collaboration with The Boston Birding Festival, Earthwise Aware, Native Plant Community Gardeners, Mystic Charles Pollinator Pathways Group, Biodiversity Builders, and Green Cambridge.“(quote from Fresh Pond Reservation Newsletter July 2026 )

“It’s also a participatory science event where we collect, record, photograph, and identify moths while learning more about their extraordinary lives.” (quote from The Moth Ball )
