Fence Dancing by Adria Arch Enlivens Views on Both Sides of the Bikeway in Arlington

Brightly colored shapes now interacting above one entry to Spy Pond express the artwork’s title, Fence Dancing. If you pause your walk, run, or ride to study them, you may start to dance in place. Here are quotes, links, and photos from my first visit.

“ArtsArlington is pleased to announce the completion of Fence Dancing, a vibrant new public art commission by local artist and arts leader Adria Arch. Installed on a chain-link fence along the Minuteman Bikeway overlooking Spy Pond, this playful sculpture of 22 colorful, painted aluminum shapes is curated by Cecily Miller to bring a joyful moment of relief to passersby.”

Check out Fence Dancing, a vibrant public art installation by Arlington artist Adria Arch featuring colorful abstract paintings on large-scale aluminum panels.  Look for the installation on the Minuteman Bikeway between Arlington Center and Linwood Street near Spy Pond.” (quote from Arts Arlington, Pathways Art on Bikeway )

The shapes are from nature, reflecting the pond and surroundings. I used spray acrylic on aluminum shapes to suggest motion and vitality. @artsavvyano is the installer par excellence and @ceciliachile is the fabulous curator of public art for @town.of.arlington .” (quote from Adria Arch Instagram post, July, 2026 )

Consider how weather and seasons will reveal different features of Fence Dancing. Imagine the lively music and dance moves that could accompany the installation.

I hope to go back many times through different seasons for more to share about this fascinating installation!
