” Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn are a Baltimore based artist team striving to transform public spaces into playful and vibrant experiences.” ( quote from bio on the artists’ website )
In May 2017, Jessie and Katey incorporated every outer inch of a building, including roof, steps, and chimneys into a colorful commanding work of art. They responded inventively to the dimensions and angles of the space; they chose challenging materials as well. More than two years later their installation still stands out and draws us in.
“The artists used recycled materials, including bottle caps, plastic shopping bags, and aluminum beer cans to add texture. Before they began working on the project, Unterhalter and Truhn prepped more than three thousand cans by cleaning them, cutting them up, and flattening them out.” ( quote from article by Lily Rugo in Boston Magazine June 2017 )
Their installation, “Allumination” is one of several murals by other artists on Zone 3 buildings in Allston. I hope to post again with more about the Zone 3 initiative.

Terrific collection of building art. I’m jealous of Bostonian’s chance to see these impressive works of art.
