Her Brilliant Mural in the Museum is a Rich Resource for Her Fluent Artwork in the Park

This post matches a few photos of the recently completed mural with excerpts from wall signage, as one way to connect this important indoor resource with the temporary (through May, 2027) installation outdoors.

López Chavez depicts three “portals” centered by a hand touching their surroundings in order to suggest reliance between humankind and nature.

The Water portal,… shows a hand dipping into a pool, creating ripples and aqueous flows in shades of blue.

The Earth portal .., features hands stitching together plant and flower-patterned fabrics in green and brown tones.

The Sky portal…depicts a celestial space with a hand gently cupping the moon.

Some imagery-such as the ginkgo leaf and the nautilus shell— interweave concepts about nature’s resilience and design.

Together, these artworks spark awareness and wonder about nature and our shared role in caring for our earth.
